Darvish on His Scoreless Streak
Yu Darvish is in the midst of a dominant stretch. Over his last four starts, he hasn’t allowed a run, and has pitched every inning except one for a 35-inning scoreless streak.
Here’s what he had to say following his most recent shutout, against Hanshin on Tuesday, translated by Adam.
“I didn’t really think about it (pitching for the team’s fourth consecutive shutout win), I just focused on the batters one at a time and wanted to keep them down until my team mates scored some runs. Hanshin has some great hitters, so I’m glad I was able to pitch carefully.” Darvish continued, saying that his seventh consecutive victory is, “thanks to my teammates’ defense, their hitting, and the support of the fans. I’m incredibly thankful.” He credited catcher Shota Ono with his 35 inning streak of no runs allowed. “I owe it to Ono.”Â

Wow, very impressive. Darvish is such a selfless guy, giving all the credit to his teammates. He deserves atleast some credit for this amazing streak!

I was watching the game. “Carefully?” The second strike out by Murton in the video came off a fast ball from count 0-2. He threw four pitches in that at bat (one foul ball). All fast balls. He shook his head before the last pitch. Everyone knew what he wanted to throw. Just watch again how ridiculous Murton looks after striking out.
This is not to accuse Darvish of lying or anything, but merely to illustrate how dominant he is.

I had a case of insomnia that night, so I saw the 8th and 9th innings and the post-game highlights. It was perhaps the best Darvish I’ve ever seen — great velocity and great movement on his cutter, four-seam and two-seam/shuuto.

…Is it me, or has Hanshin looked even worse lately in all phases of the game? Mayumi needs to go. I’ll sign a petition to get rid of this guy because he is not helping this ballclub do anything successful. He is bringing my favorite NPB team lower and lower and management has yet to fire him! I miss the days when Hanshin actually played good baseball and was managed by people that actually knew something about baseball. Right now, I am watching Orix have their way with them 7-2 in the second inning! All Mayumi does is stare with a dull blank look out of the dugout. He doesn’t even care about this ballclub!

I’ve only watched a couple of innings of Hanshin baseball this year, but it’s probably not just you. Hanshin is in last place and got demolished 14-3 by Orix yesterday. Their lineup, which was dominant last year, if on life support this year. The bright spot is that they’re doing okay on run prevention, and a couple of their question-mark pitchers (Iwata, Nohmi, Messenger, Shimoyanagi) are performing well so far.
